Electric Avenue: Historic Streetcars of Windsor

October 3, 2009 – January 4, 2010

Curated by Windsor historian Andrew Foot, Electric Avenue: Historic Streetcars of Windsor traces the development of North America's first streetcar system that linked Leamington, Tecumseh and Amherstburg to Windsor. This exhibition includes ephemera from the collection of noted local history enthusiast Bernie Drouillard, maps and retraceable brochures of streetcar routes, historical photographs and contemporary images of the vestiges of the tracks. Foot, whose International Metropolis website has won many awards, tells a fascinating and largely unknown story of public transit in Essex County, providing food for thought for those interested in environmentally sound alternatives past and future.
